UPRIGHT

A knight rides slowly forward on a white horse, holding his cup out before him as an offering. His armor is engraved with fish. The Knight of Cups is the romantic envoy — the proposal, the artistic gesture, the carefully chosen invitation. The card honors slowness and grace as forms of power.

REVERSED

Reversed, the Knight of Cups is the offering withdrawn, or romance staged for its own sake. The card can name a person whose gestures are beautiful but hollow, a creative project that prizes presentation over substance, or the querent's own tendency to confuse the gesture of love with the labor of it.
