The Hanged Man
UPRIGHT
The Hanged Man hangs by one foot from the living tree, the halo lit around his head, his face strangely calm. He is the willing pause — the surrender that opens a view no striving could reach. Upside-down, he sees the world right-side up at last. The card honors what is gained by stopping the struggle.
REVERSED
Reversed, the Hanged Man is the suspension refused, or the surrender that has gone on past its season. The card can name a person clinging to the upright posture when the cosmos is asking them to hang quiet, or one who has been suspended so long they have forgotten there was ever a ground to return to. The lesson, either way, has not yet finished.
